#FOCUSON: Playground Twins

Playground Twins are…
A twin duo of Nate and Josh Swart from Cape Town, with a passion for bringing people together using the power of house music to unite the dance floor.

We started DJing…
At Rocking the Daisies 2015 with Nate playing a set on his cell phone at the November side stage. They were spotted by a club manager and booked their first club gig in Stellenbosch after that.

Outside of DJ-ing, we get up to…
The twins have started a company in the cannabis industry where they have their own Hemp Clothing label and have started up a free DJ school in the township Philippi to pass their skills on to those that are less fortunate.
This school called Growing OGs, includes the basic introduction to DJing and Introduction to Music Production in a state of the art studio in a shipping container. The Twins are working on their debut EP album in the Philippi Studio.

Our journey in the SA Dance Music industry has…
Noticed how opportunities come from the most unlikely places. Play that opening slot at a festival… even if there are very few people watching you, one right person that likes what they hear can land you a residency at your dream club.
We'd like to see club nights move towards…
A bigger “collab” mindset of DJs/Producers and Promoters alike, working WITH each other to see the industry grow faster and pushing more world class quality productions, and a more united and racially diverse dance floor.
Electronic music in 2030 looks like…
A community of music lovers working together to host some of the worlds best music festivals and production classes working to use music to help change South Africa, and maybe few Playground Twins tracks on the charts :)

Artists to look out for…
Themba, Daru, Kyle Watson, David Meyer

Plans for the rest of 2019…
As the twins wrap up summer in Cape Town with their residencies at Shimmy Beach Club and SoCal, they move into more of a touring space travelling across Southern Africa and Nate heads off for a Europe Summer to play some gigs in Portugal and Spain for a few months.
The Growing OGs project in Philippi also has big plans for 2019 pushing the artists that come through the course and the music produced in the shipping container.
Possibly even a record label on the cards.
